Mini LED Sign

A small stand-up sign: an acrylic disc lit from below by a 5 mm LED running off a coin cell hidden between two engraved side plates. Download the files and cut.

Two files, because they're cut from different material: the base parts from 3 mm plywood or MDF, the top from 3 mm acrylic.

Size

Scaling grows the sign, but everything that has to fit something real keeps its size: the slots for 3 mm material, the coin cell and LED openings, and the pin holes.

Engraving on one side

You'll also need

  • A 5 mm LED
  • A CR2032 coin cell
  • Two 3 mm pins or screws, about 10 mm long, through the holes at the top

Putting it together

  1. Put the LED in the slot in the acrylic top's stem, legs pointing down and spread just enough for a coin cell to slide between them — long leg on the side where the cell's + face will be.
  2. Place the stem between the two side plates and push the pins through the holes at the top.
  3. Press the tabs on the sides into the foot.
  4. Put the coin cell in the round hole in the battery plate and slide the plate in between the sides like a drawer, until the cell sits between the LED's legs.
  5. The drawer is also the on/off switch: pull it partly out and the light goes off.
